left Thousand Trails Lake Minden at 7:40AM, and stopped in Corning, CA at the Olive Pit. The drive trough the mountains was beautiful with many steep up and down grades – as much as 7% on some. This time the view of Lake Shasta and Mt. Shasta was sunny.

Just inside Oregon and finally over the mountain passes we arrived at Seven Feathers Casino. The RV park is on the opposide sie of the interstate than the casino. Just had to call for a shuttle. The RV park is truly worth the stop.

Day 36 Newport, OR
Traveled from Seven Feathers Casino RV in Canyonville, OR to a little south of Newport, OR today. Fueled up at Seven Feathers – thrilled to get 8.75 mpg after all those mountain passes. Camping at Leisure Time Whalers Rest. We were at this park in 2005. Large trees, indoor pool, across the highway from the ocean. We will be here a week so hope to get some good sunset photos. It was a rainy and chilly travel day…..in the upper 40’s. Lots of RV parks along I-5 in northern California and Oregon. Met many logging trucks along the way. There is forest on both sides of State Road 20 from I-5 to Newport on the coast. It is very curvy, but they are working on taking out a few kinks. Looking forward to visiting 2 light houses from here.
Days 38 and 39 Beaches & Lighthouses

Day 41 Heceta Head Lighthouse
Today we drove south of Portland around 20 miles to Heceta (He-see-ta) Head Lighthouse. There were some beautiful viewpoints along the way.
The currents are very strong at Devils Churn and Spouting Horn. When the tide comes in at Spouting Horn, it creates enough pressure to cause the "eruption"

Day 43…. Travel to Seaside
Traveled from Whalers Rest south of Portland, OR to Seaside, OR. First time at this park. Everything is soooooo green.
Day 44 North Head Lighthouse
It was a cold day - about 40 degrees.....but we drove to North Head Lighthouse hoping at least for no rain. No such luck. We made the 1/4 mile walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse just in time for the rain to start. We could not go up the stairs because they are in need of repair. We then drove over to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center located in the same loop. It is arranged in the order of their trip. Raining too much when we came out to make the 1 1/2 mile walk over to the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse. We did in 2005 though. Click the lower right corner for full screen, and esc to go back.
Day 46 Mears Lighthouse
It was a sunny day…..few and far between. Drove south through Tillamook to Mears Lighthouse
The foam patterns in the water as seen from the deck were pretty.
In October of 2010 2 young men shot the lens many times with high power rifles. They were caught, and part of their sentence was to pay the $60,000 to replace just the outer glass panes. Someone from Florida has offered to help repair the lens itself. It still has a large hole. No visitors are allowed to go up the steps because the vibrations could cause further damage.
You can see from the door at the right side of the photo, it is a very short lighthouse compared to others.

Day 53 travel from Seaside, OR to Silver Creek, WA
It was a rainy travel day, but had stopped by the time we arrived at the Leisure Time Resort. We stayed here in 2005, and the size of the trees still amaze us. Many Christmas tree farms in the area. It cleared off enough late in the afternoon to catch a glimpse of Mt. St. Helen from outside the gate.
The park is still so beautiful…..the flowers are not in bloom just yet because of a late spring. The staff here is extra friendly.
